Investing Towards the Future of Health and Social Services in Laval
This project aims to: 1 - Promote studies and careers in the health and social services fields to targeted bilingual Laval youth with desired qualities (science concentration, maturity, etc.) with the intention of them coming to work in Laval. 2 - Provide targeted bursaries to bilingual graduating students from university programs in health and social services who are willing to work in Laval, within the CISSS de Laval or a community organization
In this perspective, Agape:
Coordinates and organizes annual field trips to the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital (CISSS de Laval) for targeted mature high-school students at Laval Senior Academy as well as North Star Academy. This full-day trip event brings students to learn about various health professions. Agape works with school career counsellors and other school staff to help recruit these students along with the help of the Community Learning Centre coordinator within the school.
With the cooperation of the CISSS de Laval, Agape discusses the major gaps, previously identified, in the number of bilingual health and social services professionals (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology, mental health) within Laval’s public institutions and community organizations and focuses on creating initiatives between community networks, educational institutions and health and social services networks forming joint collaborations in the potential hiring of bilingual health professionals, and focusing on bursaries for bilingual students willing to pursue their career in Laval;
