McGill Professional Schools Targeted Bursary Program

The Program
The McGill Professional Schools Targeted Bursary Program is for students pursuing full-time studies in eligible McGill health care and social service programs with direct entry to licensure. Students must have appropriate English and French language fluency levels and be eligible for licensure by their professional order.
This Program is part of Dialogue McGill’s Recruitment and Retention Program.
Bursary Amounts
10,000$
The bursary is for one (1) academic year. There is no maxmium number of bursaries a student can receive under this program.
Eligibility
The McGill Professional Schools Targeted Bursary Program is open to students who:
are Canadian citizens (or permanent residents) who have resided in the country for at least 24 months;
have the appropriate English and French language skills to provide services in a health and social services institution in Quebec;
are currently accepted and/or registered for full-time studies into an eligible McGill Professional School’s program with direct entry to licensure;
are registered full-time for the application period’s academic year;
are committed, following completion of studies, to stay in the province of Quebec to work as a health care and social services provider in a public institution* for a minimum of one year, per bursary awarded;
agree to participate in any follow-up, monitoring or evaluation of the McGill Professional School Targeted Student Bursary Program conducted by the Dialogue McGill and / or the relevant professional school.
Students are uniquely responsible for ensuring that any Dialogue McGill awarded bursary does not conflict with the requirements of bursaries awarded from another funding source or organization. We recommend that students communicate with their funding sponsors to clarify any potential conflicts.

Students must submit their application forms to the relevant Professional School by November 28, 2024
Professional School’s Deadline
Professional School’s must submit all signed application forms and supporting documentation to Dialogue McGill by January 16, 2025
Application Process
Step 1
Students must complete and sign Form 1: Student Application and submit it to the contact person at the McGill Professional School with the following supporting documents attached:

copy of academic transcript
Step 2
Students must provide two (2) references who can evaluate the student’s potential to commit to staying in the province of Quebec and working as a health and social services provider upon completion of studies.
The Reference must be provided by an individual who has known the application in a professional and/or academic capacity for at least 6 months who can evaluate the students' potential to commit to staying in the province of Quebec and working as a health and social services provider upon completion of studies. The reference provider cannot be a family member or friend. For example, a reference provider can be a previous supervisor (stage, employment, volunteer work), a professor who knows the student well, etc.
Students fill out the title page and section 1, and ask that their reference providers complete section 2–4 of Form 2 - Reference 1 | From 2b - Reference 2
Reference providers should email the completed forms to the contact person at the relevant McGill Professional School.
Selection Criteria
The selection of bursary recipients is based on the following criteria:
the student’s commitment to staying in the province of Quebec following completion of their studies to work as a health care and social services provider in a public health and social service institution for a minimum of one year per bursary awarded;
the student’s interest in working in a region other than Montreal;
the quality of the student’s academic standing;
the quality, content, and presentation of the application.
The McGill Professional Schools Targeted Student Bursary Program Selection Committee will choose bursary recipients from a prioritized list recommended by the McGill Professional School.
Note. Priority will be given to students who have a primary residence in Quebec.
Recommendation and Approval
The Dialogue McGill Bursary Recommendation Committee will evaluate the McGill Professional Schools Targeted Student Bursary Program Applications submitted by the relevant McGill Professional School using an evaluation grid based on the selection criteria mentioned above.
Dialogue McGill will allocate payment directly to the awarded students.
Bursary Recipient Requirements
Students awarded a McGill Professional Schools Bursary must commit to the following:
the recipient must commit to completing studies in a program with direct entry to licensure at McGill University, permitting the student to work as a health and social services provider in Quebec upon completion of studies;
the recipient must commit to staying in the province of Quebec following completion of studies to work as a health and social services provider in a public health and social services institution for a minimum of one year per bursary awarded. If the recipient can only secure part-time employment, repayment time is considered to be the equivalent in hours of one year of full-time work;
it is the bursary recipient’s responsibility to advise Dialogue McGill of their place of employment;
should the bursary recipient not be able to meet their commitments, they will have to report in writing to Dialogue McGill and reimburse the allocated funding as outlined below:
should the bursary recipient drop out of the agreed upon program of study or default on their commitment in any other way, they must reimburse Dialogue McGill in full within three years following the date of default;
should the recipient default on their commitment by ceasing to work as a health and social services provider in the province of Quebec before the fixed period has expired, they must reimburse Dialogue McGill, within three years, the amount of the bursary prorated for the remaining period;
should the recipient default on their commitment by not working as a health and social services provider in Quebec, they must reimburse Dialogue McGill the bursary amount received, within three years of graduation;
the recipient must provide a digital photograph and curriculum vitae to the Professional School and grant Dialogue McGill and the Professional School permission to disseminate, for promotional purposes, the student’s photographic image, and information about the bursary awarded through the Dialogue McGill website and publications.
